The Eastern Coatings Show (ECS) will take place May 16-18, 2023, at Harrah’s Atlantic City in New Jersey. The biennial event is organized by the Eastern Coatings Federation, Inc., a corporation founded by the Metropolitan New York Coatings Association, the Philadelphia Society of Coatings Technology, and the New England Society of Coatings Technology, to serve the coatings industry on a broader national basis exceeding their regional orientations.

During the event, a total of 42 papers will be presented on topics covering architectural and industrial coatings, sustainable materials, and emerging technologies in coatings and raw materials. “I am particularly excited about the range of applications that will be presented, with technologies designed for coatings that improve lifestyle along with those that protect the infrastructures we depend on. We will not only have speakers from the Eastern U.S., but from across the globe at this show,” said Chuck Jones, Technical Committee Chair. “This is a great opportunity for anyone attending to get up to date on current trends in materials and coatings technologies,” he added. The ECS will also feature a panel discussion on the afternoon of May 17. Four industry experts will discuss “The Future of Coatings, Where Do We Go from Here,” and will provide insights on trends, developments, and forecasts for the future of the coatings industry. The panelists include: Raymond Fernando, Ph.D, Chair, Coatings Technology and Ecology of California Polytechnic; Dean Webster, North Dakota State University Department of Coatings and Polymer Materials; George Pilcher, Vice President, The ChemQuest Group; and Amanda Andrews, Account Manager, Michelman.

“These experts bring extensive experience in the coatings industry and are known for their work pioneering next-generation raw materials and chemistries, which we can expect will be the materials we will be using in the near future,” said Dave White, ECS Board Member. “It will be exciting to hear the discussion with panelists of this caliber on topics so relevant to our industry. This will have an impact on raw material suppliers and coatings manufacturers for the next 10-20 years.”

Show organizers also announced that the University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and High-Performance Materials will present an abbreviated short course on Fundamentals of Coatings and Sustainable Materials in the Marketplace during the ECS. The course is included with all levels of registration. The purpose of the course is to give attendees an understanding of the technical drivers for selecting and using raw materials and an understanding of the applications and testing of coatings with a summary of sustainability concepts and materials specific to paints and coatings. The first part of this four-hour course is designed for chemists, engineers, and people new to the coatings industry, with the second part geared towards more experienced lab and technical personnel.

Over 100 companies are expected to exhibit the latest raw materials, equipment, and services available to coatings manufacturers. Check out the floor plan here. Below are a few featured companies that PCI encourages you to visit with while at the ECS.

Efficient & Airless Dispersions — In Half the Time as Conventional Horizontal Mills

With revolutionary, patented technology in the field of particle size reduction, the NEXGEN™ Vacuum Recirculation Mill removes air from the feedstock and uses vacuum force to further deagglomerate particles. The result is a purer and more efficient grind. The distinctive design allows the use of the smallest grinding media available for nano-milling. It is the most efficient media mill, often achieving results in half the time of its horizontal milling counterparts.
