The 36th Biennial Western Coatings Symposium and Show will take place October 15-18, 2023, at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Convention Center. The theme for this year’s event is "The Wonder of Connecting in Living Color." The aim of this biennial conference is to provide educational and networking opportunities for technical individuals involved in the development and manufacture of coatings, their employers, and related vendors in the coatings industry. The program includes a three-day technical program, a two-day tabletop exhibition, and opportunities for socializing and networking.

Two keynote speakers are scheduled. Denise Hartmann, Senior Vice President Dispersions, Resins & Additives - Americas, BASF Corporation, will kick off the conference on Monday, Oct. 16. Her presentation is titled, “Partnership and Trust in the Coatings Industry: A Look Forward with a View of the Past.” On Tuesday, Stuart Hayes, VP Regional Development, Evonik Corporation, will speak on “Sustainability – Leading Beyond Chemistry.”

Monday’s agenda also includes a panel discussion with the theme, “Leading Through Change: Insights from Industry Experts – A Leadership Panel on the Chemical and Coatings Landscape”. Panelists include Denise N. Hartman; Eva O’Keefe, Vice President of Principal Development, Azelis Americas CASE; Muge Tamkan, Americas Vice President, IMCD Coatings & Construction; Dr. Allen Bulick, Technical Director of Product Development, Dunn-Edwards Corporation (A Nippon Paint Company); and Gary Leroux, President & CEO, Canadian Paint and Coatings Association.

The full conference has 110 presentations scheduled, on topics ranging from new additive technologies, resin developments, advancements in pigments, digitalization and AI, low-VOC renewable solvents, fluid dispensing, UV-cure technologies, a variety of coatings technologies, and more.

The Sunday Night Welcome Reception at Drai's Beachclub/Nightclub on the Cromwell Hotel Rooftop is always full of energy, good food, and entertainment. Additional socializing will take place during smaller receptions held in the exhibit hall on Monday and Tuesday evenings, where well over 100 tabletop exhibitors will showcase their latest technologies available to coatings formulators and manufacturers. These nighttime events, as well as the dedicated exhibit hours during the day, offer plenty of time for networking and additional learning.

PCI will be exhibiting at Booth 230. Be sure to stop by to say hello, and learn about what we have coming up later this year and in 2024! Below you will find a handful of other companies that we encourage you to visit while at the WCS!

New Benchtop Color Spectrophotometer

See BYK-Gardner’s new benchtop color spectrophotometer, the color2view, at WCS Booth 404. The color2view has fixed or variable apertures, two sample openings, storage for standards, and a brilliant capacitive touch screen. Measure 45/0 color, 20 degree & 60 degree gloss, and fluorescence. The color2view Pro offers Jetness indices. Use of Digital Standards can be exchanged between the benchtop color2view and the portable spectro2guide due to the excellent intra-instrument agreement.

Ask about our hand-held color instruments, glossmeters, byko-visc viscometer, and physical testing equipment for coatings. We will also feature a new dispermat as well our POS color system and software.

Efficient & Airless Dispersions - In Half the Time as Conventional Horizontal Mills

With revolutionary, patented technology in particle size reduction, the NEXGEN™ Vacuum Recirculation Mill removes air from the feedstock and uses vacuum force to further deagglomerate particles. The result is a purer and more efficient grind. The distinctive design allows the use of the smallest grinding media available for nano-milling. It is the most efficient media mill, often achieving results in half the time of its horizontal milling counterparts.

Visit us at the Western Coatings Show, Booth 423, to discuss this innovative technology.

Siltech Farm to Lab Coatings Additives with Bio-Sourced Content

We have made some of our standard additives with the organic components sourced from the farm instead of the oilfield. The Silsurfâ Bio series of additives provide the same great performance, but are made from botanical plants instead of petroleum plants.

Come by WCS Booth 507 to talk about this and other innovations from Siltech.
